The Objective
The goal was to refresh the existing deck and bring it up to a higher standard—both visually and functionally.
The structure itself was serviceable, but the space lacked definition and didn’t adequately address privacy. The intent was to modernize the appearance and improve usability without altering the layout or expanding the deck.
Our Approach
We worked within the existing footprint, retaining the structure where viable and focusing on upgrading the elements that impact day-to-day use.
A key component was the railing design. We introduced a mix of open picket sections and Ikonik privacy panels, allowing the deck to remain open where appropriate while screening off more exposed areas.
In addition to the deck, an Ikonik privacy panel fence section was installed to further define the space and improve separation from neighbouring properties.
All finishes were updated to create a cleaner, more cohesive result while maintaining proper integration with the existing structure.
Key Features
- Deck refurbishment (no change to footprint or layout)
- Existing structure retained where viable
- Updated decking and finish materials
- Mixed railing system (open pickets + Ikonik privacy panels)
- Ikonik privacy panel fence section
- Improved privacy without enclosing the space
- Clean, modernized appearance
Results
The finished deck maintains its original form but feels significantly upgraded. The combination of updated finishes, mixed railings, and added privacy elements gives the space more definition and usability without requiring structural changes.
