Design Approach

This wasn’t a “figure it out on site” build.

We started with a 3D rendering, dialing in layout, proportions, and alignment before construction:

  • True symmetry across the main deck face
  • Centred feature elements (tree + step layout)
  • Clear circulation and usable zones
  • Integrated privacy — not added after the fact

Key Features

Integrated Tree Feature

  • Existing tree preserved and built through the deck
  • Custom geometric surround for a clean, intentional finish
  • Allows for movement and future growth without compromising the structure

Full-Width Tiered Steps

  • Multi-level transition to grade instead of a single stair
  • Wide, usable steps that double as seating
  • Keeps the space open and easy to move through

Ikonik Architectural Privacy Panels

  • Laser-cut aluminum panels from Ikonik Incorporated
  • Used to screen the AC unit and define the edge of the deck
  • Adds privacy without closing the space in

Railing System

  • Pressure-treated wood framing
  • Black metal balusters for contrast
  • Clean, consistent alignment across all sections

Build Execution

  • Tight board layout with consistent spacing
  • Clean mitres and transitions around the tree feature
  • Solid framing and proper support throughout
  • No filler details — everything serves a purpose

The Result

A deck that feels deliberate.

The symmetry keeps it clean, the tree makes it unique, and the Ikonik panels push it into something more architectural than a typical backyard build.
